Movie Critic

As a movie critic, it is so important to love, understand, and appreciate different types of film (even if it is cringey). There are some pointless films that have absolutely no message behind them or just don’t display it clearly. Sometimes the acting is so horrible that you just can’t finish the movie, we’ve all been there before. Sometimes the movie plot is also horrible that it completely disappoints you when you are excited to watch the movie. Many movies have a message behind them, and many don’t. The ones that don’t have a message usually have a bad plot line and bad acting, or they’re just cringey to watch. Movies now don’t seem to be the greatest as they were when I was growing up. Old Disney movies were the source of messages for kids, even if they didn’t fully understand it at the time, they realized that each of those movies had a meaning later in life. Even in adult comedies and dramas, they had a message for adults to understand and enjoy. In my opinion, movies from the 1990’s to about 2015 was a good era for all genres of movies. In the recent years there have been some decent movies that have come out with good acting and has a good story plot to it. Overall, film should have a meaning to it, with that having a good story, acting/voice acting, and a valid message to provide viewers and leave them with a question or an answer.

    Madi, I really like your take on what makes up a good movie. Your point on Disney movies having meanings that many didn't understand as kids struck me. So many of those movies I could rewatch and really come to appreciate them more. I was once told by an old teacher that great books are the ones that you can keep reading and find a new message every time you read. I believe this to be true with movies as well. The great ones leave the audience feeling moved or inspired. I think that would be the reason why people are drawn to those kinds of movies than others. A movie with no real message or plot strikes me as a waste of time. As a fellow movie critic, if I feel that I have wasted my time then the movie rating will almost never be good.

        Today we will be reviewing the movie trailer for Hercules, Disney’s 1997 animated film. As for this movie being a 90’s  Disney movie, we all remember that distinct voice over on every Disney movie trailer . That voice that isn’t a part of the movie itself but describes the actions and plots of the story to really draw the audience into watching the movie. Since it is a family movie, the trailer uses visuals and voices to grab children's attention . This is because Disney knows that kids won’t read much of anything when it comes to watching something interesting. Moonlight

Early on in the movie, when we are witnessing the early life of Chiron , it takes us to a moment where Juan is at the beach with him. Before this scene, Chiron had always seemed to be a quiet kid and never really felt like he belonged. In this scene where Juan tells him to join him in the ocean, we can tell that Chiron is unsure of this suggestion. We can see that he is struggling to decide whether to go or not based on the camera angle and his facial expressions. Eventually, Chiron decides to join Juan and he teaches him how to float in the water on his back. Chiron seemed to not trus t Juan in this moment, but Juan reassures him plenty of times that he wasn’t going to let him go. Eventually Chiron learns how to swim and, in the background, we can hear Juan's words of encouragement and excitement for Ch iron. This scene portrays a lot of feelings in it. Everything Everywhere All at Once

            This movie is definitely odd and confusing. Absurdism is very promi nent in this film, relating to the characters and the world itself. Evelyn is the main character of this movie, and we see her character change as she sees herself in different universes. We see her confused as she's being shown the different versions of herself and how she acts when she returns to her normal self that she knows. Later in the movie she tries to explain what is happening and why everyone is acting weird. Her dau ghter and husband think she’s crazy and ridiculous for thinking anything like that was possible. This movie is bizarre and strange, and it shows it. This movie does a very good job at showing absurdism with the main character. Her actions and behaviors change based off the other versions of herself from differen t universes.
